The 16th International Conference on Development and Tendencies in Communication Management
- Online Conference Focus on “Performativity on Online Platforms and Personal Relations in the post COVID-19 pandemic era”, Taiwanese, American, Japanese and Korean Scholars meet each other at Shih Hsin University Online Conference.
The pandemic of coronavirus causes the drastically changing in people’s life and pushing the transformation of digital life. Shih Hsin University has held a two-day international online conference-the 16th International Conference on Development and Tendencies in Communication Management, on the 13th and 14th of May. The conference focused on “Performativity on Platforms, Virtual Intimacies and Economic Innovations in the Post COVID-19 Pandemic Era”. Dr. Brooke Erin Duffy who is the associate professor at Cornell University was the keynote speaker. Other international scholars from well-known universities were also invited to this conference, for example, the dean of the School of Education Dr. Joshua Smith at Loyola University Maryland, the professor of Communication Department Dr. Jaehyeon Jeong at the University of Utah Asia Campus, the researcher of Research Center for Education for Sustainable Development Dr. Keitaro Morita at Rikkyo University, and the chair of Department of Communication Management Dr. Hong-Chi Shiau at Shih Hsin University. The conference went on all online, and the people followed the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) instructions on the spot. During the pandemic period, through this conference, the scholar, faculty, and student exchanged efficiently, and deeply discussed the adoption and influence of social media platforms, lockdown quarantine, and higher education from the global perspective.
During the round table discussion about “Digital innovation and business transformation during the pandemic. The case of Japan, the USA, and South Korea.” , the chair of the Department of Communication Management Dr. Hong-Chi Shiau at Shih Hsin University have a conversation with American education scholar Dr. Joshua Smith, Korean communication scholar Dr. Jaehyeon Jeong, and Japanese cross-cultural education scholar Dr. Keitaro Morita. Dr. Keitaro Morita addressed that the demand for food may increase because of the city lockdown and quarantine caused by the outbreak of coronavirus. The food producers maybe have dysfunction of delivery, then waste the food. Dr. Jaehyeon Jeong shared the change after Korean got an AZ vaccine, and the change between civic responsibility after some media reported that the vaccine causes adverse effects and the number of normal cases. Dr. Joshua Smith shared that the policy of American higher education to the COVID-19 pandemic and its influence, for example, more than 30 universities in the U.S.A have announced to restore the face-to-face courses in the coming fall semester because of the success of vaccination and pandemic prevention.
The dean of the College of Journalism and Communication Dr. Guang-Shiash Hu said, thanks to deploying troops in advance of prevention of pandemic and the support of soft-hard equipment from the government and the University during the pandemic period, then this international conference can be held successfully. “The influence on the media by the Covid-19 is very broad, the old form of media has changed, especially in the popularization of social media. There are some big shocks on creativity, economy, and education. This conference gathered studies and ideas from scholars of different fields. It can bring new inspiration to industries and universities.”
One of the presenters, a graduate student of the department of management communication at Shih Hsin University Ms. Pei-Hsuan Huang said, “It’s unprecedented that Covid-19 changed our life. To me, it’s a transformation of industries and a change of people’s interaction. Now the pandemic is aggravated. I believe that the observation and studies of this conference will have some influence. ” Not only scholars from Taiwan, U.S.A, Japan, and Korea attended this the 16th International Conference on Development and Tendencies in Communication Management at Shih Hsin University, vice-president at Shih Hsin University Sammy Yang and dean of Research and Development Department Dr. Pei-An Liao also attended this conference. Students and faculties from Shih Hsin University and other universities such as Fu Jen Catholic University, Chinese Culture University, Chung Yuan Christian University, Ming Chuan University, Tamakang University, National Chiao Tung University, National Chengchi University, National Chung Cheng University, National Taiwan University of Art, and Taipei National University of the Arts, etc. also attended this conference. Total 42 theses were presented, and 15 media-related academic posters were posted on the spot. The conference discussed six topics, “Innovation of storytelling and Performativity on Platforms in the post COVID-19 pandemic era”, “Strategy Communication and Management in the post COVID-19 pandemic era”, “Virtual Intimacies and Brand Management in the post COVID-19 era”, “Economy Innovations and Advertising Public Relations”, and “Regulations and Policies on Live Streaming Platforms”. We look forward to keeping innovating and having more different issues and knowledge through ideas exchanged in the era of omni-media and digital convergence.
