OGIDO SEIICHIRO | Japan
I am OGIDO SEIICHIRO, hailing from Japan (Okinawa). The reason I chose to study in Taiwan was actually due to not being accepted into the university I desired in Japan after high school. During a period of confusion, the idea of studying abroad suddenly occurred to me. At that time, I also heard news that a friend was planning to study in Taiwan. After hearing everyone's thoughts, I also wanted to broaden my horizons overseas, so I decided to study in Taiwan.
The initial process of learning Chinese was extremely challenging because I started from scratch. At that time, the only vocabulary I knew was "hello" and "thank you." It took me more than a year to gradually improve my Chinese proficiency. The university selection process was influenced by my identity as an Okinawan, where Okinawa is known for its many international hotels and has become a famous tourist destination in Japan. Therefore, acquiring knowledge in the field of tourism became my goal. Overcoming language and cultural barriers, and following a friend's recommendation, I decided to apply to Jinwen University of Science and Technology.
In the beginning, studying in Taiwan was not smooth. I couldn't understand the content of classes and faced difficulties communicating with classmates. So, after class, I returned to the dormitory and tried to chat with roommates as much as possible to get used to their speaking speed and accents. In my free time, I read Chinese books to learn new vocabulary and compensate for my shortcomings in Chinese.
Finally, in my junior year, the department arranged mandatory internship courses. Although I initially had concerns about my Chinese proficiency compared to other classmates, with encouragement and arrangements from the department head, I successfully interviewed for an internship at a Japanese hotel. I worked in the service center and learned international etiquette and common sense during the internship.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel had almost no international guests, but the internship environment significantly improved my Chinese proficiency.
Upon graduation, I was honored to be chosen as the representative of the graduating class. I was deeply moved when giving the speech on stage, reflecting on the four years of studying in Taiwan. During the internship, I received high recognition from The Okura Prestige Taipei and was awarded the "Best Foreign Intern" accolade by the hotel. At the graduation ceremony, The Okura Prestige Taipei specially assigned HR Director Zhang Qiongwen to present award prizes. I always approached my work responsibilities with dedication, receiving not only recognition from guests but also excelling in diplomatic relations, earning praise from all colleagues.
After returning to my home country (Japan), I continue to work in the hotel industry, leveraging the results of these four years. Currently, I am still employed by the internship hotel in the guest room department, serving as a concierge officer. I will continue to enhance my professionalism in my work in Taiwan and then return to Okinawa to take on a key role in a well-known tourist hotel, living up to the expertise taught to me by Jinwen University of Science and Technology.

Wearing the uniform brings a sense of responsibility.
