「Chang Jung Christian University-Embarking on Knowledge: The Academic Blossoming of Asif Dean Khan and the Entrepreneurial Journey in Taiwan」
Asif (Dean) Khan | Pakistan
Taiwan, a hidden gem, as my elder brother once described it. At that time, my brother had already relocated from Germany to Taiwan, assuming a high-ranking executive position in Tainan.
In 2018, when I decided to pursue my second MBA degree in Taiwan, I explored the MBA programs on the Chang Jung Christian University's official website and found them intriguing. Subsequently, I reached out to the university's admissions office via email. The university staff provided me with considerable assistance and friendly service, becoming one of the compelling reasons for him to choose Chang Jung Christian University.
Chang Jung Christian University left indelible memories for me. It will forever be my second home. Whether as a student or alumni, I always feel the warmth and welcome from the university. Simultaneously, I believe that the core competitiveness of Chang Jung Christian University lies in its excellent faculty. The professors not only impart knowledge but also establish enduring mentor-student relationships.
Parallel to the academic pursuits, I delved into the entrepreneurial landscape in Taiwan. The island, often described as a hidden gem, was the backdrop for my brother's successful career. Motivated by the entrepreneurial spirit thriving in Taiwan, I set out on a journey to explore opportunities and contribute to the island's vibrant business ecosystem. As I navigated the entrepreneurial landscape, I encountered challenges and triumphs. Taiwan's dynamic business environment offered a fertile ground for innovation and growth. Drawing inspiration from the academic journey and the supportive community at Chang Jung Christian University, I approached entrepreneurship with a holistic perspective, blending academic insights with practical business acumen.
After graduating, I decided to pursue a doctoral degree in September 2019. During my doctoral program, I took on the role of a research assistant for a distinguished professor and actively participated in a project sponsored by the National Science and Technology Commission (NSTC) (formerly the Ministry of Science and Technology). Through these collaborations, I successfully established research partnerships with several universities in Taiwan, mainland China, Macau, and the United States.
With the support of these collaborators, I co-authored a total of 9 papers indexed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), 2 papers in Q1 SCOPUS journals, and presented 1 international conference paper. Additionally, I have 9 research papers scheduled for publication in SSCI-indexed journals.
The research endeavors proved to be pivotal for me and partners, earning us the title of "Foreign Professional" from the National Science and Technology Commission (NSTC). Simultaneously, I was awarded the Taiwan Employment Gold Card, a significant recognition. This gold card not only facilitated my residence in Taiwan but also provided numerous benefits and privileges for aspects such as taxation, family residency, and even business registration. Capitalizing on these opportunities, I took the initiative to establish his research company, ANScientistify INC. I feel grateful to became the first Pakistani to register a company in Taiwan specifically focused on this specialized field.
For young scholars, I would like to give you some advices as following:
Build Strong Connections with the Local Community: Cultivate positive relationships within the local community and strive to understand their culture and language. Integration into the local environment fosters a sense of belonging and facilitates a smoother academic and professional journey.
Gain Relevant Work Experience: Seek out opportunities for work experience with local Taiwanese companies, even if they are internships or part-time positions. Ensure that these experiences align with your future career goals, avoiding unrelated jobs solely for short-term financial gains.
Work Diligently and Sincerely: Embrace the philosophy that success is achievable through sincerity and hard work. By dedicating oneself earnestly to academic pursuits and professional endeavors, success becomes an attainable reality rather than a distant dream.
My journey in Taiwan exemplifies the fusion of academic pursuit, hard work, and achievement. My deep affection for the land reflects in my desire to inspire young scholars to bravely chase their dreams on the captivating stage of Taiwan, a realm brimming with endless possibilities. By sharing what I have done her, I would like to encourage and empower the next generation to showcase their talents and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of opportunities that Taiwan offers.
I not only focus on my study when staying in Taiwan but also enjoy different activities here
