Feng Chia University | An Overview of Studying in Taiwan: Boost and support in the lost
Sammy Khor Tze Wei | Malaysia
I am Sammy from Penang, Malaysia. I was very hesitant when I was choosing my degree, I had no idea what I wanted to do and I didn't know what I should choose. But in the end, I decided to focus on being a Logistics Planner, and I kept pushing myself in this direction when I was studying. I was also uncertain when I chose to go abroad, but in the end I decided to pursue my studies in Taiwan. It was in this uncertain situation that I decided to study abroad.
While studying in Taiwan, I enjoyed communicating with my classmates, and I learned about the friendliness and passion of the local people, as well as making many friends in Taiwan. They would introduce me to common knowledge about Taiwan and give me help with my studies. I believe that without them I would not have been able to experience many of the interesting aspects of my university life. For example, I helped out in the department, which gave me a better understanding of the administrative process of the school. I have also worked as a teaching assistant, which has allowed me to revisit my previous courses and to have a chance to meet my younger siblings and have conversations with the other teaching assistants. All of these different experiences have made my university journey a lot more colorful. I don't think that being a foreigner makes me different from them, and I am often teased by them that I don't sound like a foreigner, but I think that their comments are a kind of recognition of my Chinese ability, although occasionally I may be recognized as a foreigner because of the words I use. I think this is a kind of communication pleasure and a way to get along. In addition to my classmates, the teachers' advice also helped me in identifying our futures. The teachers provided us with employment opportunities in our respective fields and advised us on the professional skills, languages and licenses we should develop.
Feng Chia University has a lot of resources in terms of study abroad, internships and scholarships. In the midst of a major epidemic and a global economic recession, Feng Chia University is still providing support to students who need it, and offers emergency grants to help our international students to continue their studies without worrying about tuition fees and living expenses. It is thanks to this grant that I was able to get through the worst part of the epidemic, and I have since received scholarships from outside the university to complete my bachelor's degree in Taiwan.
In addition to the financial support, I also obtained a logistics license at Feng Chia and was actively involved in data analysis courses and internship opportunities. Through continuous learning and communication, I have learnt that professional knowledge is a sharp sword, but it also needs a corresponding handle to bring it to a practical level. The evolution of time has made the application of data the main demand of people, and the transformation of data into a basis for decision making is the ultimate goal of research and the "facts" that are needed in the marketplace. I am currently learning about web development through a school internship in the Trade-van Info Services, an IT service management company.
Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep on moving. No one has any idea whether or not they will end up like what they are after, so it is better to set an anchor for yourself and move towards it while exploring and moving forward. With the sway that exists on the road of uncertainty and my family, I have the motivation to keep moving forward in this foreign country.
Venture outside your comfort zone. The rewards are worth it.
My friends have given me a wonderful memory.
Our teachers were with us as we grew up and saw us leave.
