Life at National Chi Nan University
Life at National Chi Nan University was an exhilarating journey that shaped me into who I am today. I, Edysen Shin, proudly stand as the third generation of a thriving Chinese diaspora in Indonesia, carrying with me the rich heritage of Theo-Chew as my mother tongue. Stepping onto the vibrant campus of NCNU, I embarked on a transformative academic path, specializing in International Business Studies, and accomplishing this feat in a remarkable 3.5 years.
Throughout my time at NCNU, I embraced the role of chairman in the NCNU Overseas Chinese Student Association, the NCNU Indonesian Student Association, and the NCNU Christian Fellowship. These platforms became crucibles where my leadership acumen and managerial finesse were forged. Alongside my responsibilities, I cultivated treasured friendships with peers hailing from diverse corners of the globe, enriching my worldview.
The start wasn't without its challenges. During my inaugural year, I grappled with Mandarin, nearly surrendering to the struggle. However, I chose persistence over surrender. At dawn's first light, I'd be found passionately writing Mandarin characters from storybooks, and throughout the day, I'd engage with local Taiwanese friends and the church community to refine my pronunciation. This relentless dedication bore fruit as my academic scores flourished.
Life after National Chi Nan University
Transitioning from university life, I leaped into a professional career early in my eighth semester and didn’t attend the graduation ceremony. My journey led me to a role as a sales marketing executive at Sunrex Technology Corp, a global leader in notebook keyboard manufacturing, stationed in Limerick, Ireland. Dell stood as our prized partner in Europe. Then I moved to Singapore for more challenges and worked at UTAC, a semiconductor powerhouse, before returning to Indonesia.
My entrepreneurial ventures birthed a beverage company, a travel agency, and a language center. Adversity struck, resulting in bankruptcy within two years. Yet, I refused to relent. Turning to the written word, I authored 10 books, some of which gained national acclaim in Indonesia. This authorial path birthed my evolution into a corporate trainer and speaker, catalyzing the inception of AceLearnings, my brainchild. Today, AceLearnings partners with global giants like Porter Henry And Co – New York, USA, InnerMetrix UK, and Occulus Canada, fortifying corporations across Indonesia.
The trajectory of learning remained unceasing. An MBA candidacy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign reinforces my dedication to unending growth. Hungry for knowledge, fueled by audacious dreams, I traverse continents, illuminating minds and inspiring action in Fortune 500 Companies, MNCs, and local conglomerates. My journey has touched the landscapes of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, China, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan, Vietnam, etc.
What’s Next?
The momentum remains unwavering as I gaze towards the horizon. As the present collides with the future, I envision my company's ascent to public listing, marking a new chapter of triumph in the Indonesian stock exchange. The legacy of NCNU persists, igniting a trailblazing odyssey that defines my essence: focused, insatiably curious, and relentlessly sharpening the blade of progress.
