Dr. Stefanie Eschenlohr (徐言) is a linguist and sinologist with a Ph.D. in General Linguistics from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. Over the past 20 years, she has dedicated her career to international academic exchange, working in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.
Her roles have included serving as the Director of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Information Centre Taipei (2010 - 2017), Deputy Director of the DAAD Beijing office (2006 - 2010), and Director of the DAAD Information Centre in Hong Kong (2000 - 2002).
During this time, she also taught part-time at the Department of European Cultures & Languages at National Chengchi University and at the Department of Government and International Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University (1997 – 2002).
Following her tenure with DAAD, Dr. Eschenlohr joined the National Taiwan University of Science & Technology (NTUST) as a senior advisor on international affairs in 2018. She also teaches German courses at the NTUST Language Centre and offers courses on European culture in the Centre of General Education.
In addition to her teaching and advisory roles, she actively contributes to NTUST's internationalization efforts by editing the NTUST English Newsletter and creating content for the English website.
Dr. Eschenlohr's connection with Taiwan dates back to the 1980s when she first visited for a one-year Mandarin language program at the Guoyu Ribao Language Centre. She is a fluent Mandarin speaker and proficient in several other languages.
